Differential Shaft, friction shaft

Even if it is assumed that the thickness of the parent roll of material is constant and meets the quality level, when this fabric goes through processes such as coating, laminating, printing, and embossing, the thickness varies slightly throughout the fabric. And this difference in thickness creates a difference in the diameter of each roll after slitting, as seen in the table above, and this difference in diameter subsequently creates a different tension for each roll.

As you can see in the test result table above, due to the difference in diameter of each roll, if you wind while adjusting the RPM to match Roll 1, Roll 2 will wind more and more loosely, and if you wind it in accordance with Roll 2, Roll 1 will wind more and more tightly. . Tension is directly proportional to torque and inversely proportional to diameter. Therefore, if the diameters of the two rolls are different, it is impossible for the tension of the two rolls to be the same unless different torques are applied to the two rolls.

A differential shaft is a shaft that winds while applying different torque to each roll. We commonly refer to a “pneumatically controlled differential shaft” as a “friction shaft.” In other words, it is a shaft that generates torque using friction generated by pneumatic pressure.
